Glendowie Primary School Sports Programme

Glendowie Primary School has a varied sports programme, linked to the National Curriculum and the Bay Suburbs Sports Cluster.

The focus for Term 1 is aquatics.  Children from Years 1 – 6 swim at the school pool.  Year 7 – 8 pupils are coached at Sacred Heart Pool.  A Swimming Sports event is also held at the school pool for years 1 – 4 and at the Sacred Heart Pool for Years 5 – 8 pupils.

Summer sports such as cricket, softball and tee ball are also part of our Term 1 programme.

During Term 2 there is a focus on large ball skills, practicing skills to assist with sports such as basketball, soccer, rugby, netball and volleyball.

During term 3 the focus is cross-country with a continuation of winter sports. Badminton has become a very popular sporting activity in the senior school this year.

Athletics is the focus for Term 4, concentrating on sprinting and field events.

Children in Years 5 – 8 have the opportunity to represent the school at Bay Suburbs Sports events.  The Bay Suburbs Sporting group is made up of 8 schools in our area.  Teams or individuals that perform to a high level at Bay Suburbs events may also get the opportunity to represent Bay Suburbs at the Eastern Zone level.  Sports that are competed at Bays Suburbs level are swimming, softball, rugby, soccer, netball, cross country, athletics and badminton.  We also arrange sports exchanges with school in our cluster.

Many teachers elect to supervise sports activities during lunchtimes to assist with training teams to provide further opportunities to be involved in sports.
